Breathe Some Air Back Into The Everyday. Spring Slow-Living Tips That You Can Start Right Now.

BREATHE SOME AIR BACK INTO THE EVERYDAY

Finding that your days are passing by in a blur and you can’t seem to slow down? It sounds like it is time to make some changes. Spring is the perfect time to start fresh and improve your everyday. Here are some of my best Spring-based slow-living tips that you can start implementing today:

First, take a step back and assess how you are currently spending your days. Are you filling your days with activities that you enjoy? Or are you just going through the motions, doing things that you don’t really care about? If it’s the latter, it’s time to make some changes. Start by filling your days with activities that are meaningful to you. Do things that make you happy and bring you joy. Take part in activities that are mentally stimulating and have a positive outcome.

The warmer weather brings more daylight. This excess daylight means more time for us to connect with other people and enjoy their company o. Make an effort to bond with people in a more meaningful way. Instead of just exchanging small talk, have conversations that are truly interesting and engaging. Get to know the people around you on a deeper level and make time for people who give you the ‘feeling’ you know the one, the good feeling, the type of people who leave you feeling motivated, inspired, and uplifted. Go for a picnic with a friend, a glass of wine by the river, or a stroll through your local village.

SLOW IN THE SPRING

One of the best ways to enjoy a slower pace of life is to live gently. This means taking things easy, enjoying the simple pleasures in life, and not pushing yourself too hard (Although this may seem impossible in 2022, I hear you.) It’s all about finding a balance in life and enjoying the moment - regardless of your current ‘end goals’.

One way to live more gently is to make time for yourself each day. This could mean taking a few minutes to read, taking a relaxing bath, or just taking a walk outdoors. It’s important to find activities that help you relax and unwind on a personal and intimate level, take yourself on a date and communicate with yourself about your intentions and needs.

Another way to live more gently is to be mindful of your consumption. This means being aware of the things you purchase and use daily. Ask yourself if you really need something before you buy it. Do your best to reduce waste and choose products that really make you feel good, items that will have a long life. Recently I decided to have a spring clean and have now committed to not purchasing any new clothing for myself (Aside from my Wedding dress!) Until 2023 - instead, using second-hand clothing stores such as Vinted and Depop.

REDUCE THE NOISE

One of the best ways to reduce stress and promote slow living is to reduce the amount of noise in your life. Spring is about sweeping out the old, regaining focus and preparing for the seasons ahead.

One way to reduce noise is to limit your time on social media. Social media can be a major source of self-doubting thoughts, perhaps over your creative style, work, or outward appearance. If you find yourself scrolling through your feed for hours every day, try setting limits on how much time you can spend on social media. For me, I have found during the day, whilst I’m working or hanging out with my kids I will put my phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’, ensuring that any notifications, emails, texts, or calls are there and waiting when I have the time and mental space to deal with them.

Finally, make an effort to surround yourself in person with YOUR people during these warmer days. Connect with those special individuals face-to-face, away from social media, who make you feel good and who support your efforts to live a slower, simpler life, who encourage your creativity and are genuinely encouraging and nourishing.

GET OUT IN NATURE OR BRING IT IN

Spending time in nature is another wonderful way to slow down and appreciate the little things. Being submerged in nature can help you feel more calm and grounded. It's also a great way to get some movement into your day and fresh air. So, get out there and go for a gentle walk, pick some flowers, stroll around the park, or just sit outside on your doorstep and breathe it all in. If you cannot go outdoors, consider bringing nature inside your home. This can be done in several ways. You can start by adding some plants to your living space, bedroom and bathroom, or any spaces you often use. Plants not only add colour and life to a room but also purify the air and give you something to dish out some of that nurturing energy to. Another way to bring nature inside is by incorporating natural materials into your everyday home décor. This could include using reclaimed wood furniture or adding natural colours, symbolism and images throughout your spaces.

SO TAKE SOME TIME TO ENJOY THE SLOWER PACE OF SPRINGTIME LIVING. DE-CLUTTER, COMMUNICATE, TURN OFF THE NOISE AND RELAX INTO A GENTLE, SOFT, SPRINGTIME LULLABY.
